Another Year, Another Hate the BCS

Alright, let's knock this out real quick. The first BCS standings of the college football season will come out this Sunday, and if ESPN's projections are to be believed and everything goes according to plan this weekend then Boise State University will start at number one. Key word: start. I know already that this is upsetting for some out there, but consider this before you start your ranting:

The rankings (as far as I know) are based only on the games played thus far, a key fact when considering strength of schedule. Up to this point, when you look at the schedules Boise State's is comparable, if not better, than pretty much every power conference school. This part of the equation will change as the season progresses, as Boise's schedule is front heavy and the others are back heavy due to conference schedules. The BCS rankings will change, but the story will be by how much Boise drops week to week. I'm not saying that Boise will or won't or should or shouldn't be back in Glendale come January 10, 2011. All that is being said is that this is only the beginning. Unlike previous years where you don't see much leap-frogging because the strength of schedule is relatively the same between all the teams. Not so this year, where Boise State's will get increasingly worse, and most others will get increasingly better.

As always in this, I'm rooting for chaos. I do not like the BCS. But when there is chaos, it's like watching a car crash, but instead of innocent people in wrecked pieces of metal, it's bad guys in the car and the wreckage (hopefully) will turn into something beautiful (such as a playoff system).

  3. Congrats, you can read the newspaper projections. Notice when this article was posted, and the whole "everything goes according to plan this weekend" part", and according to the predictions at that time, Boise was projected as #1. Everything did not go according to plan this weekend.
